Gearing up for Canada's first ever Red Tape Awareness Week
| Submitted: January 07th, 2010 By: |
In anticipation of the Country's first ever Red Tape Awareness Week, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is heralding a number of initiatives aimed at broadcasting awareness and promoting education concerning the negative effects of excessive government regulation and the resultant need for reductions. Red Tape Awareness Week will be taking place the week of January 11th-15th.
“While most of us have limited direct experience with the burdens associated with red tape, many small business owners equate regulatory compliance to death by a thousand paper cuts; and if it affects small businesses, it affects us all,” explained CFIB’s vice-president of western Canada and lead author of the report, Laura Jones. “It’s been said that awareness facilitates change, and change is sorely needed in this important area.”
Included among CFIB’s positive list of initiatives are:
• Release of Prosperity Restricted by Red Tape: A research report examining the present state of regulation both provincially and federally.
• A website dedicated to Red Tape Awareness Week featuring comments and stories from small business owners
• A video
• A cartoon
• Anecdotes of Red Tape nightmares
